America’s Boating Club Peace River Holds 53rd Change of Watch Ceremony
Members of America's Boating Club® | United States Power Squadrons® Peace River recently gathered to celebrate leadership, service, and tradition during the 53rd annual Change of Watch for the Peace River Sail and Power Squadron.
During the ceremony, outgoing Squadron Commander James Ayres was formally relieved after a year of dedicated service to the organization and the local boating community. Under Ayres’ leadership, the squadron continued its mission of promoting safe boating through education, civic engagement, and fellowship among area boaters.
Assuming command for the coming year is Dean Sellers, who pledged to build upon the squadron’s strong foundation while expanding membership recruitment and retention and increased opportunities for education, community outreach, and on-the-water activities.
“The Change of Watch is both a celebration of accomplishments and a renewal of our commitment to boating safety and community service,” Sellers said. “I am honored to serve and look forward to working with our members as we continue to grow and adapt to the evolving boating community.”
The Change of Watch ceremony is a long-standing maritime tradition symbolizing the orderly transfer of authority and responsibility from one commander to the next. The event also recognized bridge officers and volunteers whose efforts support the squadron’s educational programs and civic activities throughout the Charlotte Harbor region.
With over one hundred local members, America’s Boating Club Peace River is part of a nationwide network of volunteers dedicated to making boating safer and more enjoyable through public boating courses, vessel safety checks, and community partnerships.
