Civic service is an important facet of the United Sates Power Squadronbs°/America's Boating Club°. Peace River has been recognized a number of times with the BoatU.S. Civic Service Award. This award recognizes the squadron's contributions to the community they serve. This award includes not only the boating classes and VSCs, but has been expanded to include public seminars and workshops, scholarships, courtesy marine patrols, media interviews, children's safety programs, etc.
Peace River conducts beach clean-ups at least four times each year at Bayshore-Live Oak Park, has an active Cooperative Charting program to verify Aid To Navigation within Charlotte Harbor, fire extinguisher training with the Punta Gorda Fire Department, participates in the annual Christmas and Veterans' Day parades, meets the public through our booth at local home and garden shows and boat shows, and many more civic projects.
We welcome your participation in these projects.
America’s Boating Club Peace River Squadron members got into the Thanksgiving/Christmas Seasons’ spirit and donated nonperishable food items and unwrapped toys that were forwarded to St. Vincent de Paul, Jersey Tomatoes/Charlotte County Behavioral Center and the Boys’ and Girl’s Club of Charlotte County for distribution to less fortunate families and children in our community.
P/C Sandra Darna, SN is shown delivering the Squadron’s donations that will brighten the hearts and spirits of our fellow families in line with our squadron’s mission statement. We would like to thank all of you who were so generous in donating food, gift cards, checks and toys. Also, a huge thank you to the Silver Tridents for their generous donations to these organizations. May each of you celebrate the holidays with health and happiness.
Saturday was not just the 2024 International Coastal Cleanup. It was also the first 2023-2024 Keep Charlotte Beautiful Ambush Award presented.
The recipient was caught at the quarterly cleanup she organizes for America's Boating Club Peace River at Bayshore Park, their Adopt A Shore. This particular park does have some homeless folks so not every cleanup group would be a good fit for the location. Barbara Cartwright brings donuts and coffee for volunteers and anyone else that wants to help. Then she gives what is left at the end to share with the others who were not there. She also welcomes help from anyone that is present when they do the cleanup. It was nice to know that the groups work together to help care for the park. It is great to have such a kind human who is helping our community in more ways than one.
This is why Barbara Cartwright received the 23.24 KCB Ambush Award for Adopt A Share. Congratulations Barb!
