Our 18 November meeting featuring our annual chili cook-off was successful with 29 members attending this event. Sandy Darna welcomed her two friends visiting from Canada.
A total of six chili entries and two soups (corn chowder and squash bisque) were submitted. Heidi Rowe won 3th place with her plant-based chili, Ann Sellers won 2nd with a spicy smoked chili and Ed Maxwell narrowly captured 1st place with his delicious chili entry. Ed was awarded the traditional 'Pot of beans' award by last years winner Mike Sellers. All three winners were awarded a wooden spoon keepsake as a thank you. Coincidentally, yesterday was Ed's birthday and this was also celebrated with a traditional Happy Birthday directed by XO Dean Sellers.
In November, we always want to honor our squadron Veterans and thank them for their service to our country. This year, we celebrated with patriotic cupcakes from Sam's Club.
New members, Edwin Porter and Yvonne Vigil, were sworn in by Commander Ayres. They brought a chili to this event as first time visitors to our squadron. It was a really well done green chili and was a nice addition to the other entries. Others who contributed to the chili/soup festivities were Kris, Betty, Sandy and Deb, Dan and Diane.
Keep America Beautiful Cleanup on March 22, 2025
The March Keep America Beautiful Cleanup was the morning of March 22, 2025. Because the group was not able to do our usual pick-up at Bayshore Live Oak Park because it has not been reopened to the public since the hurricanes last Falls, we partnered with the Vietnam Veterans of America Post 1037 to clean up the grounds in the area around the Vietnam Wall at Laishley Park. We had a grand total of 17 show up for coffee, donuts and work for the cleanup.
